God's Will

I'm still at Panera. I've been reading the e-book "Blogging in Pink", and it inspired me to write a post that I've been intending to write for quite a while.

(Almost) every Wednesday, my friend Kristin and I meet at Starbucks before work to go through a Bible study on God's will. The Bible study has brought some great insights. It's called "Living God's Will", and it's written by Eddie Rasnake. It's probably one of my favorite Bible studies that I've done.

I just want to share a few tidbits and things I've learned from the study. Maybe one of these items will help you with a current struggle in your life.

God's desire for us is not to make us miserable, but to make our lives meaningful and to make us more like Himself.

Don't fall into the binary trap, thinking there are only two options in a decision. If we've come up with the options ourselves, both may be wrong.

We need God's perspective and eternal value system to filter through our decisions.

Remember that God wants you to know His will even more than you do.

In each circumstance, check: Have you found God's will, or have you simply decided what you want it to be?

Romans 12:2 says God's will is good, pleasing, and perfect. God knows your needs better than you do.

Haven't you sometimes struggled with wanting to choose your own will over God's?...Just think how much it would help us in these situations if we really understood that His will, His specific desire for us in that circumstance, is good, acceptable, and perfect...What a comfort to know with certainty that His will is better for you than your own will is!

Often we doubt the words of Romans 12:2 that say God's will really is good. We want the right to put a "presidential veto" on anything that doesn't seem good to us or on anything we don't want to do.

God's will is not a choice to be made, but a command to be followed.
