The grass may look greener on the other side...

The grass may look greener on the other side,
but it still has to be mowed.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. - Hebrews 13:5

So often I look at what another person has and think, "Wow, if I only had what she has..."
But oftentimes I forget that what that person has brings other complications and responsibilites with it beyond what I see. God gives us all what He wants us to have. There is a reason we have what we have. God knows what we can handle at certain times in our lives. He knows what we need. Sometimes he keeps something from us for a purpose greater than our eyes can see or our mind can comprehend. And we just have to trust, believe, and follow anyway.

  1. I found myself thinking that a lot over the last couple weeks when Gerry and I were worried about extra expenses and money in general. I tried to remind myself not to be anxious in anything, but to pray often... and i tried to find solace in what paul says about knowing what it's like to have lots and nothing and being okay either way. but i still teetered on the brink of not believing God was taking care of the situation until the solution was right before my eyes. the day before our mortgage was due, i was sorting through junk mail and happened to notice that one piece looked like a check. so i opened it up. it was an amount greater than we needed to meet our bills, and it had been in that stack for over a month. God provided and brought us all we needed long before we knew we needed it. it was an amazing feeling. humbling, sure, and a little embarrassing. but it's good to have my pride squashed and my faith tested. i hope next time i start to worry, i can stand in faith that God really knows just what we need and just when we'll need it :)
