Toddler Times: Praying for Pizza

Every night we pray with Krew before he goes to sleep for the night. Lately we've been asking him which of us he wants to pray. Sometimes he says "Mommy,", sometimes he says "Daddy," and sometimes he says "ederbody" ("everybody"). ("Ederbody" is always entertaining. It usually involves Dave and me taking turns saying parts of a prayer, while Krew mumbles and tries to copy our words while staying one syllable behind us.)

This past Sunday night, I was the honored person selected for prayer time.

So I did my usual...I said "Dear God, thank for for a fun day, thank you that we got to go to church, and play with cars, and play in the pool..." and I went through all the things I thought were probably a highlight in Krew's day. I then finished up by saying, "Thank you for Jesus and please let us have a day tomorrow that glorifies You. In Jesus' name, Amen."

As soon as I finished, Krew turned to me and said in a soft quiet voice, "Forgot...um...forgot...forgot pizza."

We'd had pizza for dinner, and I hadn't mentioned it in my prayer.  And apparently, pizza was a big part of the little man's day.  It was the first time he'd ever offered anything of his own for a prayer.  And it was the first time that Dave and I both knew he was listening to our prayers and that he understood that we were listing things were thankful for.  It about melted our mommy and daddy hearts.

I quickly re-bowed my head and said, "Oh, and thank you that we got to eat pizza.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

And then the little boy laid his head down and was content.

Thank you Jesus, thank you for these little moments.
