Company Girl Coffee 03.20.09

Hey Company Girls!
Well, today I am sadly swamped beyond belief at work. Stress level is sky high. So it's going to be a short post today.

Dave and I are in the process of possibly buying a house. It's very time consuming!! We were informed by our realtor that we essentially need to pack up half of the stuff in our home in order to show it to sell it. I was not overly thrilled to hear this. But I got to work the other night, putting away most of the decorations in our living room. Supposedly, you need enough items in your house for buyers to feel comfortable, become emotionally attached, and understand the function of a room...but you want to leave enough space for them to imagine their own belongings next to your items. So Dave and I are going to be living in an austere home for a while. :( You do what you need to do though!

While I packed up the living room the other night, Dave made us a fancy salmon meal. I was impressed. :)

Mmm so fancy

Our poor disheveled living room
(packing stuff up gets messy!)

While on the topic of new house...I need everyone to vote for the front of our new home!! We are probably going to build, so we get to choose what it will look like. So please go to my post from a couple days ago - House poll - and vote!!

Now for the trivia:

Last week's trivia:
What animal is referenced in the Bible more times
than any other, making an appearance in the text
over 400 times?

Answer: Sheep!

Speaking of sheep, here is this week's trivia: What people in the Old Testament detested shepherds?

Alright well that's about all I have time for. I'm flying to Seattle for the weekend to visit my friend Jackie t., so pray I have a safe trip!! I will do my best to catch up on all my Company Girls' lives over the weekend. :) Also pray for Dave, as he'll be trying to handle the new house situation on his own without me here. (Mortgage rates are at an all-time low, and they dropped even further yesterday. Weekend rates are even better. So the pressure is on!)

God bless!
Kara

  1. Kara, thanks for the coffee this morning! I'm headed to work (teaching 5th and 6th grade this morning!) so I'm short on time. Praying for you as you clean out the house and figure out what you need to do for building. I'd LOVE to build with some extra land, too!

Have a great weekend -- remember to breathe!

  2. Just popped over for coffee. Hope you manage to sell the house soon, and don't have too much trouble with your possessions all packed up. I hope you have a good weekend and get a chance to destress a bit.

Is the answer to your trivia question the Eqyptians?

    Best wishes,
    Jo

  3. You always have the coolest little things on your blog! I love the House Poll. Hope all works well with selling and building. I'd like to build soon, myself! Have a great weekend!
Oh, and I have no clue who didn't like shepherds...

  4. Good luck with home buying/selling. I didn't know it took so much time until we bought our house last year. My sister was just in Seattle the last weekend. Hopefully the weather will be a little better for you. Have a fantastic weekend and trip. Oh, and have your chef share the recipe he made. hehe Looks yummy!

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. It must be difficult to have to pack things up to show the house - even though you want to sell, you still want to feel as if it is "your" home until you move out.

Jo is right, I think - the Egyptians hated anyone who kept livestock, which is one reason they were happy to let the Israelites settle over in Goshen!

  7. Thanks for the invitation to visit, even if your living room is a bit disheveled. It's part of life. :)

Re: Trivia - it was the Egyptians, right?

I hope your weekend is a good one!

  8. Wow - you've been busy! I agree - it's a hassle to pack stuff up to sell a house, but definitely worth it. Good luck - don't forget to relax and recharge over the weekend!

  9. Kara, so glad you posted yesterday! My husband is a realtor, and I totally understand the "pack it up to sell it" mentality. I know someone else who does, too. If you are looking for a good chuckle or two, visit raisingfive.com (Katherine, Rachel Anne's sister) and read some of her posts about moving. She went through it all recently, and some of her posts are a hoot!

Well, try and get some of that "re-charge" time that Rachel Anne prescribed yesterday in the midst of your busy weekend. :)

  10. Good luck with the decluttering....I don't think I'll ever move just because of that reason...unless it's to a nursing home...and then my kids will have to do it! :0)

  11. Hi! Thanks for the coffee! Yes, the living minimally is a bit uncomfortable. When we had to do it for our last home sale, we actually grew to like it. There was less clutter, less to clean; and then when we did finally sell the house, half of our stuff was already packed. It was actually hard to open up those boxes at the new place because I knew we *could* live without the stuff, so I didn't want to fill up my new house with all of it.

Anyway, best of luck with selling and building. Whichever front you choose, it looks like the new house will be beautiful!

  12. As I was driving along, days after last week's trivia question, it hit me!

    SHEEP!

    I slapped my forehead, duh!

I have a feeling that living without half of my stuff could be nice. And now that I think about it, we still have boxes of "stuff" out in the barn that we never unpacked from our last move....6 years ago. My cookbooks are out there, but that's the only thing I can think of that I miss.
