Company Girl Coffee 02.06.09

Welcome to all my Company Girls.

Let's see, what's going on in my life...

This Sunday I am a volunteer model for a fashion show in a town about 30 minutes from Raleigh. The money raised will go toward providing scholarships for kids in the Arts Education Program at the local high school there. Pretty neat, huh? Click the flyer below to check it out and even provide your support for the kids with a donation if you feel so inclined.

I'm a little nervous about walking on the stage and through the crowd and doing the little poses that have been requested...especially with Dave sitting in the audience. But we'll see how it goes. My friends Emily and Kristin were so wonderful as to volunteer with me (thank you girls!!) so at least I have some moral support. :) I'm sure I will have some pictures to share next week.

If you read my post yesterday, you'll know that I suddenly decided I was tired of red in my living room. So this morning I changed it. Most of the red was on our bookshelf, so I ended up switching it to tan stuff instead. (Tan was about the only other color of decorations that I had laying around the house.) I just needed a red break. Below is the after-picture. (I forgot to take a before-picture...sorry. :) )

Along those lines...I made these changes this morning when I should have been having my quiet time with God. For some reason, I just really really didn't want to sit down at the table and read this morning. I couldn't do it. And then, afterwards I felt horrible for skipping it. I feel like it's put a damper on my whole day. So my question for you is...if you have quiet time with God, when do you do it, how often, and what do you do? Read your Bible? Devotions? Bible study book? Pray? Every day? A couple times a week? In the morning? In the evening? Before bed? Let me know. I'm considering switching mine up and I'd like to hear what works for others.

Alright I think that's it for today. Oh, the answer to the trivia question last week was earthquake. Good job to all of you who knew it. :) I will return next week with another trivia question...for this week I am out of time.

God bless!

  1. Thanks for stopping by Kara! I love baking, my mom and grandma taught me when I was about 9. I just love making sweet stuff!

  2. Kara, I'm hoping this finds you out of the grumpy mood. I'm still there but I think there might be a light at the end of the tunnel soon. This foot business has me just out of sorts! I'm going to look for pink things to put in my house....or fix up my bedroom for a special time tonight. Hmmm, thinking, thinking... Have a wonderful time modeling -- I'm listening to the song "All that Jazz", to which is a great runway song to walk to!! I love being part of a modeling team.

  3. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog, Kara! I'm glad you stopped by. To answer your question, I like to get up before anyone else in the house to read and pray. My mom's the opposite, though. She waits until everyone is asleep. Just find what fits you and determine to stick with it--God will help. Soon it will become a blessed appointment that you'll look forward to and not want to miss. Thanks for the coffee!

  4. Kara, nice to meet you! I was a company girl last year and had gotten away from it. :) I am glad to be back!!!

I struggle with my quiet time as well so I was hoping to hear more about what you do.

I LOL at your supermarket post on 1/20. Too funny!

  6. I have to admit that I have difficulty some mornings also. Have fun with the modelling...sounds like something different to do and for a good cause!

  7. No one has ever asked me to be a model, except at a ladies retreat one year when we had a fashion show. So I think you should just enjoy it, not be self conscious and remember it's for a good cause. I hope they have people fussing on your hair and makeup, etc, because that part sounds like fun!

On the devotions, I actually skip around. I like to do it in the mornings, but if I miss, I try and catch up at night. Sometimes my QT is in the car when I'm driving, which is a little sad, but it seems like I can really hear the Lord when all is blocked out. Joe Wilson Road near my house has been a huge inspiration and I will blog about it sometime. Like anything, discipline is good, bondage is not...someitmes there is freedom and freshness in changing things up a bit.

I guess I missed the trivia question....I'll have to look back at your old post to find it! Love the trivia q's....great idea!

  9. Hi Kara! Don't feel guilty for "skipping" your time with God. Fellowship with God happens all day long. I try to say a prayer first thing in the morning and read my bible for a while. Then throughout my day I listen to praise and worship, inspirational teaching cd's, and also pray and talk to God about how my day is progressing. He is ever so faithful to meet us right where we are! Even when it's re-decorating your living room! :)

    Blessings!
    Melissa
